the Writertime philosophy: Seasoned intellectual mentorship between student + teacher as partners rather than master + pupil.
Grades 9-12
Writing + Organization
We begin with questions: Why did Shakespeare write Romeo and Juliet? How did Germany become a dictatorship in 1933? Can racism in America be overcome? When a student focuses on substance, thoughts and research are then organized into a logical and accessible format.
This organic approach to writing encourages imagination. It also enhances vocabulary, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and usage. Students find they can read faster, more efficiently, and with greater satisfaction.
Test Prep
Doing well on school tests, the SAT and the ACT is important, but the key to success is often to spend less time more efficiently.
It takes just a few meetings to help students anticipate what they need to know and target their preparation accordingly. With simple training to prioritize important information, scores improve.
Applying to College
Not easy, but the good news — there's a better way.
- We start early to work on realistic goals.
- We focus on the student.
- We ignore institutional reputations and rankings.
- We urge the student to continue to enjoy high school.
- And we explore college life beyond the application — lifelong friendships, numerous activities + study abroad.
